Institute Policy on the Use of Alcohol

Much of the language in the rest of this section is taken from the following MIT websites and edited for the purposes of the MIT Sloan programs: https://institute-events.mit.edu/plan/event-registration AND http://web.mit.edu/eventguide/eventregulations/alcohol.html

MIT and MIT Sloan are concerned with safety and liability and so take the issue of alcohol use very seriously. The staff of the MIT Sloan Student Life Office is knowledgeable about alcohol rules and procedures and is ready to help you understand and abide by all relevant institute rules. Any MIT event at which alcohol is available must be registered. MIT Sloan’s alcohol policy complies with the Institute’s “Policy on the Use of Alcohol”. MIT Sloan faculty, staff, and students are also subject to Massachusetts laws. Faculty, staff, and students should understand the penalties and risks that can result from violations.

MIT Alcohol Policy

The MIT policy on the use of alcohol can be found in the Mind and Hand Book.

MIT observes all laws and regulations governing the sale, purchase, and serving of alcoholic beverages by all members of its community and expects these laws will be adhered to at all events associated with the Institute. This includes activities on the MIT campus, in MIT independent living groups, and at off-campus functions sponsored or supported by MIT or any of its affiliated groups. The Institute does not intend through its guidelines or policies to restrict the responsible use of alcohol by members of the MIT community who are at or above the legal drinking age of 21. However, efforts to observe existing laws and regulations in an environment where the majority of the undergraduate student body is not of legal drinking age will impose some constraints on those who are of legal drinking age.

Alcoholic beverages may only be possessed by, served to, or consumed by persons of legal drinking age:
